How child counselling can help
Child counselling may support children who are experiencing:
Anxiety, worries, or frequent fears
Big emotions and emotional dysregulation
Anger, frustration, or difficult behaviours
ADHD, neurodivergence, or sensory overwhelm
Changes in family, school, or friendships
Grief, loss, or other difficult experiences
Low confidence or difficulty expressing themselves
Separation worries or challenges with transitions
Social difficulties or trouble navigating relationships
Stress related to family changes or parenting concerns
Your child does not need to know exactly what is wrong before beginning counselling. We can start with curiosity and take things one step at a time.
What sessions can look like
Children often communicate through more than words. Sessions may include:
Child-led or structured play
Sand tray and expressive activities
Drawing, art, stories, or imaginative play
Movement and sensory-based activities
Conversation and age-appropriate reflection
Nervous-system regulation and grounding tools
Practical strategies for managing strong emotions
The approach is adapted to your child’s age, personality, interests, and needs. Some children begin by playing quietly. Others want to talk, move, create, or explore right away. There is no single “right” way to participate.
Supporting the whole family
Caregiver involvement is an important part of working with children. Parent or caregiver check-ins may be included to discuss patterns, progress, concerns, and ways to support your child between sessions.
The goal is not to blame or label your child. Together, we can build a clearer understanding of what they may be communicating and create more connection, steadiness, and support at home.
Children are given age-appropriate privacy, while caregivers are kept informed about important themes, safety concerns, and ways they can help.
A place to slow down
You do not need to arrive with the perfect explanation or know exactly what your child needs. We can begin with what you have noticed and gently make space for what may be underneath.
Ever Haven Counselling offers thoughtful virtual counselling for children located in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
Begin with a conversation
If you are wondering whether child counselling may be a good fit, you are welcome to get in touch. We can talk about what has been happening, what support you are looking for, and whether Ever Haven Counselling feels like the right place to begin.
Child Counselling
A safe, creative space for children to feel understood
Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling. Sometimes their worries, stress, grief, or big emotions come out through play, behaviour, withdrawal, or changes at home and school.
At Ever Haven Counselling, children are offered a warm, supportive space where they can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. Through play, creativity, conversation, movement, and developmentally appropriate tools, we can begin to understand what is underneath the behaviour and build new ways of coping.
Since our inception, we have advanced organizations across sectors by pairing strategic insight with disciplined execution.
